Solano Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Awards $4,000 in Scholarships to Local

Investing in the Next Generation of Solano County Leaders

The Solano Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SHCC) proudly awarded $4,000 in student scholarships at its recent Havana Nights Gala in Solano County.
These scholarships honor local students who represent the best of our community—academic excellence, leadership, resilience, and a commitment to giving back. Each recipient received a $1,000 scholarship to support their college education and future career goals.
Through this scholarship program, SHCC continues its mission of supporting education, economic mobility, and leadership development for families across Vallejo, Fairfield, Vacaville, and all of Solano County.

Meet the 2025 SHCC Scholarship Recipients
Joselito Gregorio – UC Davis (Vallejo High School Alum)
Representing Vallejo, California, Joselito Gregorio is the Valedictorian of the Vallejo High School Class of 2025 and now a UC Davis student majoring in Human Biology.
Joselito’s story is one of quiet strength and determination. While facing serious family challenges, including his mother’s battle with cancer and deep personal loss, he stayed focused on his purpose:
  • Becoming an internist (internal medicine physician)
  • Serving his community with compassion, empathy, and professional excellence
Although Joselito was not present at the gala and is not in the group photo, he is a full and honored scholarship recipient of the Solano Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Alfredo Naranjo – Fairfield High School (Senior)
From Fairfield, California, Alfredo Naranjo represents the drive and work ethic of first-generation students in Solano County. He is currently a senior at Fairfield High School.
Alfredo is:
  • One of only two students selected for a paid automotive apprenticeship
  • Creator of a public service announcement (PSA) on the dangers of drug use
  • A future mechanical or automotive engineer with a passion for problem solving and innovation
His journey shows what’s possible when schools, families, and the local business community invest in young talent.

Betzy Ruiz – Fairfield High School (Senior)
Betzy Ruiz, also a senior at Fairfield High School, grew up in a hardworking Oaxacan family that taught her the value of sacrifice, perseverance, and community. She has excelled both in and out of the classroom.
Her accomplishments include:
  • Strong academic performance and leadership on campus
  • Volunteering her time in the community
  • Participating in Chinook salmon research at UC Davis and contributing to a story published by NOAA
Betzy plans to become a Civil Engineer, with a vision of building better, safer communities for families like hers in Solano County and beyond.

Sarai Albarado – Napa Valley College
Sarai Albarado is a proud first-generation Latina college student from Vallejo, now attending Napa Valley College as a full-time student.
Her leadership and service include:
  • Participation in the Puente program, supporting first-generation Latino students with mentoring and transfer support
  • Involvement in the Community of Animal Lovers (C.o.A.L) club, helping shelter animals get adopted
  • Volunteering at St. Vincent Ferrer’s Church as a catechist, working with youth every week
  • Working as an after-school program leader, supporting middle school students—many of them Latino and still learning English
Sarai plans to major in psychology and become a bilingual clinical or counseling psychologist, focusing on mental health support for Latino families who often struggle to find culturally and linguistically competent care.
