Día de los Muertos Celebration in Vallejo Honors Tradition and Community

On November 2, Vallejo came alive with the vibrant colors, sounds, and traditions of Día de los Muertos, thanks to an annual event organized by the Solano AIDS Coalition with the generous support of sponsors like Kaiser Permanente, the Solano Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and other local organizations. This year’s celebration offered a rich cultural experience for attendees and honored the tradition of remembering and celebrating loved ones who have passed.

The event was graced by local dignitaries, including Assembly Member Lori Wilson, Vallejo Vice Mayor Mina Díaz, and City Council Member Tina Arriola, who each shared words with the community. They emphasized the cultural importance of Día de los Muertos, a tradition originating from Mexico and other Latin American countries, which holds deep significance in celebrating life and honoring ancestors.

The celebration featured an array of local vendors offering unique items, along with a variety of delicious foods that highlighted traditional flavors. Attendees enjoyed performances from folkloric dance groups, which brought traditional music and dance to life on the streets. A captivating Catrinas competition added a touch of artistry, as participants dressed as the iconic skeleton figures in intricate and colorful costumes.

For those interested in becoming part of this annual tradition, either as a participant or sponsor, the Solano AIDS Coalition welcomes involvement. This event continues to grow, bringing the community together in celebration and remembrance, and they encourage more community members to join next year.
